Amid a mosaic of flowers and gleaming ornaments, maternal contentment is sensitively portrayed in Gustav Klimt’s “The Three ages of Woman." A forerunner of the Modernist and Art Deco movements, Klimt (1862-1918) was inspired by Symbolist paintings and literature, becoming a highly respected figure of the Viennese Art Nouveau movement and its anti-art Secession. Influences of his highly stylized work can be found today in modern art, decorative objects and glass jewelry.
